Program Presentation

TThe IMSA Prototype Challenge Championship was developed to support the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship - the premier Prototype and GT endurance racing series in North America.

The series offers racers from around the world the opportunity to compete at historic venues like Sebring International Raceway, Watkins Glen International and Road Atlanta.

Following the worldwide LMP3 ( LeMans Prototype 3) platform and category, IMSA introduces the Prototype Challenge Championship new for 2017.
The state of the art closed cockpit LMP3 prototypes, which have been introduced successfully in Europe and Asia by Le Mans organizers the ACO, will be combined with existing Elan DP02 cars in the IMSA Prototype Challenge Championship starting with the 2017 season.

A 13-round schedule will race at seven North American circuits, with two 45-minute events with a single driver in each at the events. 5 events will be part of the IMSA WeatherTech championship weekends, one event will be held in conjunction with the Verizon Indycar Championship.

LMP3 chassis from up to five manufacturers will compete in LMP3 class, with identical 420 bhp V8 engines, while the PC2 class will consist of the existing Elan DP02 cars, running with Mazda engines.
